This week our students celebrated the 100th day of school.  For younger children the number 100 is as abstract as one million.  We used 100 marshmallows and unlimited toothpicks to create math sculptures.  The project helps develop problem solving, geometry, counting and groups skills with a hint of delicious treat to make things even more exciting.  We counted by 2's, put the marshmallows in groups of 10, and got to building.  Check out these fantastic sculptures.

This is a must do activity!  Next week will conclude our 4 part series on creative math solutions.  Be sure to check out Hairy Numbers Part 1 and Hairy numbers Part 2 for some more great math activities.   First Grade mom, Annah asked some great questions, if you have some ideas or insight to share leave a comment and let's grow together.

Happy Teaching!
