robinray7390,
Apologies if you were incorrectly told that we won't replace a unit based on its manufactured date. Our actual warranty policy is three months from the date of purchase. Like most tech products, our products are under warranty. If you have a receipt or proof of purchase from 2009, you shouldn't have a problem. Just contact Customer Support again and give them this information to verify that your product is still under warranty.

The solution worked. Although there is one caveat: make sure you also use a microfiber cloth and move it up and down in line with the circuit connectors on the cart and within the cart slot on the machine - otherwise you might damage the connector. This "dusting" has worked for all our games. Keep 'em clean.
Sorry to the others posting to this thread with other issues with their Leapster. Other than this problem and the fact that I had to put my son's name with spaces: A L E X because the internal firmware wouldn't accept the name "Alex" because it had the word "Ale" in it (referring to the beer), I haven't had any other issues with the system.

I, too, am also totally disgusted with the way these leapster 2 fail to work. I swear if this company was up to the task, they would gladly refund or fix the problems that these things have. One of mine, also green , won't let you go into sign in. Tried the old hold the home button while the hint and b buuton, and still nothing. Maybe I needed to do it during a full moon. Ed

@LeapFrog Toby,
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll attempt this evening and see if that works out. I'm an old gamer (Atari 2600 and Nintendo NES) and I was sort of hoping that my days of "blowing into cartridges" had ceased :-) But that seems like a likely solution to the problem. I'll post my results.

I am a teacher and purchased TWO Leapster2 (Star Wars version) game systems. BOTH systems have the same problem as yours. They continually restart rather than playing the cartridges. VERY FRUSTRATING for grade 2 students who are thrilled when their name is chosen to play the Leapster. VERY FRUSTRATING to ME who paid a good amount of money on games and cartridges that DO not work consistently. I have changed batteries, used the charger and even just plugged in the systems--nothing seems to solve the problem of restarting.... disappointed customer.....

Idb and rentzcook,
I am sorry to hear you are both having issues with the Leapster cartridges. We recommend you try cleaning the cartridge contacts with a dry cloth before inserting them into the Leapster 2. Make sure the cartridge is fully inserted into the cartridge slot, and try to avoid jostling the cartridge while in the unit. I hope this will solve your issues. Thank you.

I have actually been having this EXACT same problem since I bought my Leapster 2 in June. I bought several older games off of ebay and I have problems with most of them doing the exact same thing you have described. I even returned my first unit thinking that was the problem. But alas, I am still having problems. My son gets very frustrated with the unit as a result. I am hoping that someone at Leap Frog will pick up this message and respond to this issue.

Our Leapster 2 has had problems with cartridges lately. We've changed batteries and that isn't the problem. What occurs is after the cart has been loaded the Leapster 2 either resets back to the boot up screen or the game starts for a little bit then scrambles both in image and in sound and then resets. It seems that a little pressure on the carts will cause this problem (like holding it on your lap or brushing against the cart).
I'm worried that an internal solder point has become loose or something similar. Has anyone had this problem?
