Re: TAG Reader not recognized on any computer with any USB cord on any USB port

Chesley

Sorry to hear that you are having an issue with your computer not seeing the Tag Reader System. I would contact our Customer Service Department to see if they can help resolve the issue.

One of the first things you will want to check, is to make sure that you have the correct version of the LeapFrog Connect Application on your computer.

Can you try downloading the application from the following link, and see what happens?

Re: TAG Reader not recognized on any computer with any USB cord on any USB port

My son got a Tag Reader for Christmas & we were able to put 1 book on it without any trouble.  We had not connected it until this weekend when he received another book for Valentine's Day.  Now, I cannot get the computer to recognize it no matter what.  I even went back & exchanged it today thinking it was a problem with the particular "pen" but the new one won't work either.  I am sooo frustrated!  This is ridiculous & needs to be fixed!  We have XP at home, and I also tried it on my work computer.  Neither worked.
we actually figured it out, that hint about the usb port not supplying enough power seemed to have done it
I'm no programmer, but I did read the USB spec a couple of years ago. The power requirements are quite clearly spelled out. Part of the spec also involves disconnecting any device that draws too much current. Its a free read at www.usb.org (a bit long and technical, not for casual perusal). I think there is more to the story.

Re: TAG Reader not recognized on any computer with any USB cord on any USB port

we actually figured it out, that hint about the usb port not supplying enough power seemed to have done it it kept asking for an update but then it said there was a problem and the device disconnected so when i looked it was powered through a usb hub and when i plugged it into a port coming straight from the motherboard the connction seemed to speed up and it worked as intended it still cost me a few hours of figuring it out an finding this forum even but im glad my boy can play with it tomorrow! so heads up! it can be fixed!

Re: TAG Reader not recognized on any computer with any USB cord on any USB port

It is really unfortunate, I am also experiencing a similar problem.  I have already invested hours to try and get the tag pen and driver to connect.  I have also tried connecting manually as posted by one member.  It tells me that driver is already installed but my computer does not recognise the hardware and won't connect and giving me error messages.  I'm done!!  My computer is also new with Windows 7 operating system.  Kind of ironic that the parent can't get a kids toy to operate!!!  Any suggestions apart from throwing the darn thing in the garbage?????

Re: TAG Reader not recognized on any computer with any USB cord on any USB port

I am having a great deal of trouble with my sons Tag system, I've tried running the disc, once the disc has finished installing a message comes up with 'Cannot connect to leapfrog start' which is beginning to get right on my wick now. I just cannot get it to work, any ideas on how to get this sorted would be great as ive now run out of ideas and am very close to destroying the thing

Re: TAG Reader or LEAP FROG CONNECT problem - not USB Cord or USB Port

Suriel,

Here is the link where you can download the manual driver.

 http://lfccontent.leapfrog.com/cs/docs/Tag_and_Tag_Junior_Manual_Driver_Installation.pdf

Windows 7 and Vista users try running the application as administrator (right click and select "Run As

Administrator"). Both operating systems have much stricter user control and might block your device from connecting. You can also try turning off UAC for the initial connection and then you can turn it back on.

Let us know if any of the above suggestions fix your connections issues.

Thanks,

Re: TAG Reader not recognized on any computer with any USB cord on any USB port

Tarah,

Please try to check if the solution I have provided before this message would work for you. I have tested this on my end and my computer was able to recognize the reader.

Thanks,

Re: TAG Reader not recognized on any computer with any USB cord on any USB port

To suzie, smartin and other users who are having an issue with the Tag not being recognized by the Connect application, here is what we want you to try:

Basically, you would need install the LeapFrog Connect application for the device that you are trying to connect.

Then,

1. Lauch LF Connect.

2. Go to Parent Account on the upper part of the page.

3. Sign in with your LF account4. Connect your toy ,it should be recognized right away. Eventually the bar in the top corner will stop scrolling, then click Find Toy in the bottom right.

Your Connect application shoud be able to recognize your device (if your usb cable and usb ports are working fine). Please connect the unit to your computer using the regular USB port of your PC, not on the monitor port.

Also, try to see the checklist on the following link:
