Cocobeans! Thanks so much. I spent an hour on the phone with customer support today who were completely unknowledgeable and unhelpful, and very anxious to get off the phone.

Your fix actually worked.  If only Leapfrog staff were able to communicate this to the public. I doubt many people will be able to find this solution, buried in the community blog

Thanks again!

This worked for me too. I just wish LeapFrog would have figured this out sooner.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkPRXBmjIhk&eurl=http://jdrwebnow.net/leapster2_fix.html

I was able to get my card working using the method in cocabeans's blog in the LeapFrog Community. Took about 30 seconds. My son is happy now, he has two new games!

Here's the link http://community.leapfrog.com/blog-entry/Cocabeanss-Blog/Fix-Sd-Card/580000314.

I found a way to fix the leapster. I am an IT hardware person so I am not getting beat by a toy my 4 year old uses.:-) Check out the link http://jdrwebnow.net/leapster2_fix.html that includes the recorded youtube video. If you have questions regarding how I did it or anything let me know at jdrhunter@gmail.com.

I couldn't wait any longer. This is also assuming you have tried the FAQ fix.

Tristan's Dad:  I'm having the same issue and other SD devices that I use don't have the spring-loaded mechanism.  I think the problem is something LF needs to fix asap.  I just purchased two new 256 sanDisk cards and returned the first Leapster2 only to have the new (second) one do the same thing.  The FAQ does NOT work as that is the same thing Customer Service emailed me with.

This is pretty sad.  I convinced my son's grandparents to shell out serious money for this device for his birthday and the device won't recognize any of the 3 SD cards I have laying around so that he can have some additional games.  I am seriously considering sending the device back and going with a Ninetendo DS.  Almost the same price and I know their devices work.

<span>I installed an SD card today but it is not recognized. Leapfrog Connect lets me download the games to my PC but in the "Leapster2 status" pane on the "on my Leapster2" tab it still says an SD card is required, even though I have already installed one. The card workd fine in other devices. I re-formatted the card using a card reader in Windows XP using several different options but none have worked--I still get the "SD card required" message. </span><span>The card slot itself does not have the "click in and spring out" feel to it that most other SD card slots seem to have. Is this normal or do I have a defective card slot?</span>

Pleae HELP!

The new SD Card FAQ does not work. Have you tested this FAQ on Vista? When you plig in the Leapster 2 via USB cable with LeapFrog Connect opened, Windows Vista Pops up a message telling you that it can not read the SD Card and promps you to format. Of course, when you click format you get a message saying that the card can not be formatted.

This is rediculous. I am going to return the Leapster 2 along with the7 games I bought for my kids if I do not get a resolution to this problem by Monday.

Additonally, the implementation of the learning patch website is horrible. Clearly the release was prematurely rushed by increasing demands when the deadline  for completion was not met. Poor very poor. I almost feel like never buying another Leapfrog product again.

Provide me a fix for this SD problem at once.

My problem is similar, but it's not just the SD Card icon on the leapster that isn't active (despite there being a functional, formatted, 256 MB SD card in it) - the Connect application also shows "SD Card Required" (as in p. 28 of connect application help guide).

I previously tried downloading the free games, but they didn't get transferred to the leapster 2 ... it still showed "SD Card Required". I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the connect application, unchecking the "keep my information" (or whatever it is) box, so that everything gets uninstalled. Still no luck...

This is very frustrating.

Hi Supermike,

This new FAQ should fix your SD card problem.

Try this approach for printing your artwork:

1) Open the LeapFrog Connect application

2) Go to the Leapster2 section

3) Launch Creativity Castle

4) Create artwork that can be printed from your computer

5) Alternatively, you can save your artwork on the Leapster2 handheld and print it when that feature becomes available in the near future

I cant get the leapster 2 to recognize the SD card either.  Is there a trick to getting this to work?

I have to say that I, for one, am very disappointed with what I've found upon setting up not one, but TWO Leapster 2 systems. I paid $140, only to find that the whole back-end deal that drives the games isn't even online yet? My kids are wanting to print out the artwork they've created, but NO CAN DO... Leapster 2 says "ask your parent to insert an SD card!"

Well, I've inserted two freshly formatted, operational SD cards. One 128Mb, the other 256Mb. Neither system will recognize either card. My kids want to know WHY their new toy will not work. All I can tell them is "it's not ready yet... you have to wait another 10 days". Tell that to YOUR 4 and 5 year old that just got a brand new game system.

I've come to expect better from Leapfrog. In the future, I would encourage you to have everything functional BEFORE selling the game systems.
